Introduction:
Below you will find resources related to the summer reading projects. Every year, during summer break, students will read two different pieces of literature and complete three different writing projects.
Quick overview:
You will start by reading Markus Zusak's The Book Thief. This is a story about Germany during WWII and features Death as the narrator. He spend his time watching and reflecting on the Holocaust and a little girl named Liesel. When you get to page 238, you will stop and complete your first response paper (2-3 pages). Then you will finish the book and pick one of the final project options and write a final paper (4-5 pages).
Next, you will preview Sophocles' play "Oedipus the King" (also known/called "Oedipus Rex") with a helpful power point that will help you understand this Greek tragedy. After viewing the power point, you will read the play. You will do one more response paper; however, this response paper will be longer (4-5 pages).
